Dear Performance Nutrition Leaders,
This week: how caffeine formats are multiplying inside elite sport, why Nutrition X’s next move matters, and what teams should be paying attention to right now.
🧠 ON THE GROUND
Caffeine Is Fragmenting. Nutrition X Just Added Another Format.
Professor Graeme Close posted last week about coffee becoming "the heart of many elite sports teams." La Marzocco machines travelling with squads. Latte art competitions between players. Decaf after 3pm.
His line: "Performance. Culture. Craft. Hard to see coffee going anywhere."
We've written before about caffeine delivery fragmenting — shots, gels, gum sitting side by side on matchday tables. Players pick what works for them. The competition isn't for "the caffeine occasion." It's for format preference.
Now there's another option entering the mix.
Nutrition X teased a new product last month. Eagle-eyed readers may have spotted it already — listed on a well-known banned-substance testing registry.

Coffee isn't going anywhere and it's not the only way caffeine is being delivered anymore.
For brands, the question isn't whether your caffeine product is better. It's whether you're in the right format for the right moment.

💡PERFORMANCE TECH
Applied Nutrition products just landed in Morrisons. Not supplements — ready meals.
The company behind ABE pre-workouts and BodyFuel hydration now has 53 co-branded products across 400 stores. High-protein ready meals, sandwiches, salads, breads, cheeses.
The range that caught our attention sits under a "Small & Balanced" banner.

Smaller portions. Protein prioritised.
For athletes managing body composition on travel days or busy training blocks, that's a format worth knowing about.
